You have used all of our tips and advice, and have just arrived in Texas. Now is the time when you want to know how to get to campus, to bars, to supermarkets, how to visit Austin (and its legendary 6th Street), or how to watch a Texas Rangers baseball game.

Onsite, Bryan/College Station:

By bus: In the city, you can use the bus system that will take you to campus, or to the Northgate district, where you will find coffee shops, bars and fast-food. For more information about bus lines, please visit the following site: transport.tamu.edu (page Map/Bus Routes).

If you live in Howdy Ranch you can take the line 12 "Reveille" at t "Blinn College" stop.

Extra information:

- buses start two or three days before classes start, and you will be there at least one week before classes start.

- buses usually run from Monday to Friday, from 7am to 12pm, and from 8am to 8pm during the weekend (please check the site for hours). Very few buses run on holidays.

A bicycle: Depending on where you're living, a bicycle might be very useful. If you don't want to spend too much money, finding a bicycle at Walmart is a good plan. There, you will find bicycles for about $100- $200. It is very likely that you will run into some problems with your bike, but the company is known for its good customer service, and all you will have to do is return the bicycle (keep the receipt when buying). At the end of your stay, you will be able to sell it on Craiglist for a good price.

A car: Having a car is definitely the best transportation option. Some people choose to buy it together. Almost every Texan has a car because here, everything is far away, and everything is made for cars! You will find "Drive-Thru" pharmacies, fast-food, Starbucks, and even Drive-Thru bars

Buying a car requires a lot of planning and research; nobody likes bad surprises! A decent car can be found for $5,000, but, once again, we are not experts, you might even find somethings cheaper.

If you are a future resident of the Howdy Ranch, Don and Ghislaine suggest that you find a car and, to the best of their ability, they will help you sell it at a semi-equal price when you leave. The ideal situation would be to sell it to the next incoming system, which would create a system of rotation. You would not have to pay the insurance because you would get the purchase price in resale!

Day-trips in cities, or areas, nearby:

So you want to visit your surroundings, or go to an organized evenr in the are?

There are 3 possibilities: Either you know someone going with you that has a car(never hesitate to ask) or, if  you live in the Howdy Ranch,  Don and Ghislaine will be happy organize a trip with you and the other students, or with them! There is also a third possibility:

Renting a car: Even if you find a way to go to Austin, Dallas, or any other city, once you're in the city there is very little public transportation, so you will need a car. This year, you could go to Dallas to watch Rangers game, visit the River Walk in San Antonio, party in Austin, go on a road trip to Louisiana, or organize a weekend at the beach! This can all be doneby renting a car and sharing the price between 2, 3, 4 or 5 people

In order to find the best rates, we recommend using kayak (Cars page) then booking a car directly on the rental company website.

To get an idea of the price, don't hesitate to make simulations on the website. If you are under 25, you will definitely have to pay more than what is displayed on the website.

Notes: - Taking a car and then leaving it at different location greatly increases the price.

     - On some websites, they will allow you to book a car without paying online, which gives you a better rate.

     - Regarding insurance, consult your bank, it is possible that your credit card already insures you to some extent.
